A glass overlay snuff bottle, Chinese, 1800-1880.

The bottle has a double overlay of green and white on a mottled pink and blue ground, depicting red butterflies hovering above flowering prunus, 6cm.

Attributed to Beijing.

The skill with which the blossoms are highlighted in white and green is particularly noteworthy.

It is unusual for a bottle with this type of dappled background, typical of the work associated with Beijing, to have overlay decoration.
