A silver-gilt mounted agate bowl, Prague or South German, late 16th/early 17th Century.

The bowl is on a jasper baluster stem and foot and has beaded silver-gilt C-scroll handles, 5cm high.
It appears in the 1690 Devonshire Schedule, the inventory of an immense bequest from Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter. Listed under ‘Agats and other Stones’ are: ‘A dark colour Agat ovall Cupp upon a ffoot with two Eares Silver and Guilt’.
