A silver-gilt mounted agate bowl, Prague or South German, late 16th/early 17th Century.

The bowl is on a jasper baluster stem and foot and has beaded silver-gilt C-scroll handles, 5cm high.

It appears in the 1690 Devonshire Schedule, the inventory of an immense bequest from Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire (1619-1689), to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter (1649-1703).

Listed under ‘Agats and other Stones’ are: ‘A dark colour Agat ovall Cupp upon a ffoot with two Eares Silver and Guilt’.
