A Set of six Pastel Portraits, Circle of Edmund Ashfield (d. 1700).

Each portrait is set within a painted oval and all are in Sunderland frames; each 24.1cm by 19.7cm.

One of the sitters, the lady with pearls and ringlets, was Lady Irwin, a sister of the 1st Earl of Harborough.

The paintings were bought from the the Countess of Harborough’s sale, held by Christie’s on 24th February 1887, presumably by William Alleyne, 3rd Marquess of Exeter (1825-1895).

The Harborough title had become extinct in 1859.
