A southern Landscape with Figures on a Roadway near a Bridge, 18th Century Imitator of Johannes Glauber (1646-c.1726).

Oil on canvas, 72.5cm by 102cm.

Johannes Glauber was born in Utrecht, where he studied, apparently against the wishes of his family, with the artist Nicolaes Berchem (1620-1683).

Initially, he worked on copies of Italianate landscapes which were immensely popular in Holland at the time.

He later travelled around Europe with his brother and two friends, spending short periods of time in several places, where amongst other things, he created wall paintings and decorations for great houses.
