A grey Pony, a bay Pony and a dark bay Horse in a Field, Circle of Clifton Tomson (1775-1829).

Oil on canvas, 36.2cm by 45.7cm.

Clifton Tomson, who was born in Nottingham, was perhaps self taught.

He specialised in painting animals, travelling all over the country to do so, and quite early in his career began to receive aristocratic patronage.

Engravings of his works were later published in the ‘Sporting Magazine.’
