Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793), recorded his acquisition of this painting from the Lancelotti Palace in Rome.

The 1763 Burghley Inventory records: ‘Breakfast room ….Venus & Cupid in a Garland of flowers by Guerchino & M di Fiori.’
