Two Mughal rock crystal buttons, 17th Century.

The 2cm high buttons are mounted in gold and set with rubies and emeralds. They are all that remain of the ‘six Christall Buttons sett with Rubies and Emrods’ which appear in the 1690 Devonshire Schedule; an inventory of a huge bequest from the Countess of Devonshire to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter. It encompassed the entire contents of her suite of private apartments at Chatsworth.
