Hyacinth was one of several yachts owned, and raced each year off the Isle of Wight, by William Alleyne, 3rd Marquess of Exeter (1825-1895).
The artist was born on the Isle of Wight.
He trained initially as a plumber, but he had a natural talent for drawing and eventually, and entirely self taught, became an accomplished and much sought after marine artist.
