The Holy Family, Circle of Carlo Bononi (1569-1632).

Oil on canvas, 49.5cm by 42cm.

Another version of this painting, in the National Museum, Warsaw, has been given at times to Simone Cantarini (1612-1648).

A further version is in a Venuzuelean private collection.

Bononi was mainly active in his native Ferrara and rose to prominence in 1620 after the death of Scarsellino, one of the most important artists of the Ferrarese School, whose sacred and secular landscapes anticipated 17th Century landscape traditions.
