Oil on canvas, 90cm by 104cm. Signed: Franco. Zuccarelli fecit.
The artist, who was extremely popular in England for his Italianate rococo landscapes, was a founder member of the R.A. in 1768 and enjoyed royal patronage.
Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793) bought this painting in England after 1752 and regarded it as one of Zuccarelli’s ‘best performances.’
