According to apocryphal Christian tradition St. Anne was the mother of the Virgin Mary and the grandmother of Christ.

Andrea Sacchi lived and worked in Rome, where he was born, for most of his life.

He trained with Cavalier d’Arpino (1568-1640), and Francesco Albani (1578-1660), and enjoyed the patronage of Cardinal Antonio Barberini.
