Queen Victoria and Prince Albert paid a three day visit to Burghley in 1844, when Prince Albert was a godparent to the youngest child of the 2nd Marquess and Marchioness of Exeter.
One of the highlights of the visit was a banquet in the Great Hall on the evening of November 13th.
Henry Ziegler, who was a landscape artist, portrait painter and drawing master to members of the Royal Family, was commissioned to make a visual record of important events during the visit.
