Pieter Mulier was born in Haarlem in Holland, the son of an artist, also named Pieter, with whom he trained.
As a young man, he travelled to Italy, where he remained for the rest of his life, working in Rome, Genoa and northern Italy. He died in Milan.
He was known chiefly for his Italianate landscapes, but he also painted hunting scenes, in the manner of Frans Snyders (1579-1657).
