The Parable of the Labourers in the Vineyard appears in the New Testament Gospel of St. Matthew chapter 20, verses 1-16.
In it, Jesus says that any labourer prepared to work in the vineyard, however late in the day, will receive equal rewards with those who have worked all day.
Domenico Feti was born in Rome where he was apprenticed and worked for some time.
He worked for the Gonzaga in Mantua for a number of years, where he and his studio painted a series of New Testament parables for Duke Fernando I’s studiolo.
He later moved to Venice and concentrated on smaller cabinet paintings illustrating religious stories.
