Still Life with Flowers in a Vase, Books and a Candlestick, Spanish or Neapolitan School, circa 1650.

Oil on canvas, 48cm by 68.5cm.

Inscribed: (SI)CTRANSIT/GLORIA MVNDI.

This fine painting and its pair PIC159 were recorded by Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter as by Angelo Battaglia, a name unfamiliar to modern art historians. They were probably acquired in Naples by either the 9th Earl, or his great grandfather the 5th Earl, whilst on the Grand Tour.
