On ivory, in a gilt-metal frame, the reverse with engraved inscription, ‘by Giorgis at Rome in 1775’, 6.4cm.
The figure, wearing a blue and white turban fitted with a beautiful gold and pearl diadem, raises her right hand to her lips, in a reflection of the title of the miniature.
In the Royal Collection there is a variant composition, also entitled ‘Silence’ and showing the figure in reverse.
