Sections from the border of The Gobelins ‘Metamorphoses’ Tapestries, by Jan Jans the Younger, Paris, circa 1680

The elaborate four-sided borders with the arms of John,5th Earl of Exeter, and his wife Anne, daughter of the 3rd Earl Devonshire, supported (dexter) by the lion of Exeter and (sinister) by the Devonshire buck, the remainder with marine trophies of sea shells and coral with red ribbon ties, the four corners with stylised flowerheads.
