William Aislabie (1700-1781), was a landowner and Tory politician who sat in the House Of Commons for a remarkable, unbroken period of over sixty years.
He was the husband of Lady Elizabeth Cecil, daughter of John, 6th Earl of Exeter (1674-1721). See PIC 082.
The artist was a noted portrait painter who is said to have influenced the works of both William Hogarth (1697-1764) and Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792).
He is also known to have formed one of the most important collections of Old Master paintings of his time.
