The earl was the father of Anne, wife of John, 5th Earl of Exeter (1648-1700).
His wife’s bequest on her death in 1689 to their only daughter, comprised the entire contents of her private suite of rooms at Chatsworth and represented a magnificent inheritance.
This was recorded in an inventory referred to as The 1690 Devonshire Schedule or Deed of Gift.
