Sir Francis Whichcote, Bt. was an ancestor of Isabella Whichcote, daughter of Sir Thomas Whichcote, Bt. of Aswarby Park, Lincolnshire who in 1875 married Brownlow, Lord Burghley, later 4th Marquess of Exeter (1849-1898).

The artist was the son of a painter living in the Hague, with whom he and his two brothers trained, all becoming painters.

Specialising in still lifes and portraiture, like his younger brother Simon, he worked in several Continental capitals, before moving to London in 1683 to join his brother who had become very successful in England.
