Jane Cecil was the daughter and heiress of William Heckington of Bourne and the wife of Richard Cecil (died 1553).
Their only son William (1520-1598), became chief adviser to Queen Elizabeth I and the leading statesman of the first Elizabethan age.
He was created Lord Burghley in 1571 and became Lord High Treasurer the following year.
