Anne Montgomery (1754-1819), shown here with the eldest of her six children, was the second wife of George, 1st Marquess Townshend (1724-1807) of Raynham Hall, Norfolk.
Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793), whose first wife, Letitia (d. 1756), was a Townshend of Raynham Hall, was a patron of Angelica Kauffman. He first met her in Naples, in 1764, whilst on the Grand Tour when he sat to her for his portrait (PIC781). He became a great admirer of the extraordinarily talented young Swiss born artist.
