Alfred Whichcote was an uncle of Isabella, wife of Brownlow, 4th Marquess of Exeter (1849-1898).
Sir Francis Grant was a Scottish portrait painter who painted Queen Victoria and several aristocratic and political figures of the day.
He also acquired a reputation as a fine painter of sporting subjects after lessons with the sporting artist John Ferneley (1782-1860).
He became President of the Royal Academy in 1866.
