A Portrait of a Lady, Circle of Sir Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723).

Oil on canvas, a painted oval in a Sunderland carved wood frame, 73.7cm by 62.2cm.

The German-born Kneller was the leading portrait painter in England in the late 17th and early 18th Centuries.

He was court painter to monarchs from Charles II to George I and also founded a studio which produced portraits on an almost industrial scale and of a rather formulaic nature.
