A Portrait of a Lady, attributed to Thomas Murray (1663-1735).

Oil on canvas, a painted oval in a Sunderland frame, 73.7cm by 61cm.

Thomas Murray was a prominent Scottish portrait painter.

He trained with the English portraitist John Riley (1646-1691), who was court painter to King William III and Queen Mary.

They were both known to paint only the faces of their sitters, the rest of the portrait being completed by others.
