1763 Inventory: “Breakfast room … 4 paintings by Fabris representing the lower class of Italians.” This painting is a pair to PIC548.

Fabris is best known for his work for the diplomat and amateur geologist Sir William Hamilton. He commissioned the artist to accompany him to visually record the volcanic sites of Mounts Vesuvius and Etna and the island of Lipari near Sicily.
