Oil on canvas, laid down on panel, 29cm by 15cm.
This is a pair to PIC252.
Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793) acquired six paintings by Veronese, one of the three great Venetian artists of the late Renaissance.
This and PIC252 were presents from the painter Gavin Hamilton (1723-1798) and came from the Barberini Palace in Rome.
They are inscribed on the back ‘Palo (sic) Veronese pinxit’ and recorded in the 9th Earl’s distinctive hand as: ‘St. Peter & St. Paul small life by P. Veronese from Mr. Hamilton at Rome a present.’
