Rectangular, in a gilt frame and leather case with the monogram ‘Mary N’, 9.2cm.

A scene at Maudsley Castle 1914; a white-robed lady, probably Queen Mary, being saluted by a soldier on the canopied and carpeted steps of a large house.

‘Mary N’ refers to Lady Mary Cecil (1857-1930), daughter of William Alleyne, 3rd Marquess of Exeter (1825-1895) and wife of James Hozier, 2nd Baron Newlands (1851-1929).
