Oil on canvas, 56cm by 40cm. In a carved and gilded frame.
Giulio Cesare Procaccini was born into a family of artists in Bologna, but later moved to Milan, where he spent most of his working life, initially as a sculptor.
He painted many large church altarpieces, as well as small religious canvases, for wealthy individuals.
The painting is a copy after the original, now in The Hermitage, St. Petersburg.
