Isabella Poyntz (1803-1879), was the daughter and heiress of William Stephen Poyntz of Cowdray. She married Brownlow, 2nd Marquess of Exeter KG (1795-1867) in 1824.
Her eventual inheritance would greatly enrich and enhance the Collection at Burghley with many wonderful works of art.
Many important works were inherited from her mother, the Hon. Elizabeth Browne, a daughter of the 7th Viscount Montagu.
Sir William John Newton, one of the most fashionable miniaturists of the early 19th Century, was appointed miniature painter to Queen Victoria on her accession in 1837.
