Indolence, by Orsola Urbani, 18th Century.

A feigned oval, in a rectangular gilt-metal frame, 7.7cm.
The reverse of the frame has a label inscribed ‘by Ursula Urbani of Rome.’

Indolence is represented by a young girl wearing a jewelled diadem, as she rests languidly on a tortoise.

Very little is known about the life and career of the miniaturist Orsola Urbani, except that she was active in Rome from circa 1738 until at least 1757 and worked mainly as a copyist.
