This small painting, and PIC268 (The Holy Family, Venetian School, circa 1600), were acquired from The Zambricari Palace in Bologna by Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793).
Bastarolo studied with Dosso Dossi (c1489-1542) and worked mainly in his native Ferrara at the court of Alfonso II d’Este.
