David with the Head of Goliath, attributed to Baldassare Franceschini (1611-1689).

Oil on canvas, 125cm by 96cm.

The artist was the son of a sculptor, with whom he worked as an assistant for a while.

He then trained as a painter, proving to be a better fresco painter than an artist in oils.

His finest, and best known works are the frescoes for the cupola and the back wall of the Niccolini Chapel in the Church of Santa Croce in Florence.
