Christ Borne Aloft, Giovanni Battista Gaulli called Il Baciccio (1639-1709).

A Bozzetto, 46cm by 35cm. Related to the dome of the Vestibule of the Baptistery Chapel of St. Peter’s, Rome.

Gaulli, who was born in Genoa, was highly regarded in Rome as a portrait painter, but he was perhaps best known for his vault frescos in the Church of the Gesu. He died in Rome in 1709.
