A Miniature of Brownlow, 2nd Marquess of Exeter (1795-1867), by Henry Pierce Bone (1779-1855).

Oval, enamel on gold, in a fitted burgundy leather case, 4.5cm.

Signed, inscribed and dated ‘Marquis of Exeter K.G./ London. Octr. 1836. Painted/ from life by Henry Pierce/ Bone, Enamel Painter to her/ Majesty & their R.Hs the Duchess of Kent and/ Princess Victoria.’ on the counter-enamel.

Brownlow inherited the title as a boy of nine on the death of his father Henry, 10th Earl and 1st Marquess of Exeter (1754-1804).

He would later hold the position of Gentleman of the Bedchamber to Prince Albert at the court of Queen Victoria.
