The Adoration of the Shepherds, attributed to Lambert Lombard (1506-1566).

Oil on canvas, 100cm by 150cm.

Lambert Lombard was born in Liège, where he became an architect and court painter.

Having travelled to Italy, he was enthralled by the Italian Renaissance and when he returned to his native Liège he carried with him many new ideas, both about art itself and the status of the artist; ideas which would spread throughout Europe.
