An oval gold-mounted jasper snuff box, probably late 17th Century.

The detachable cover and base are finely carved with scrolling acanthus and berries and the contemporary English gold mount is engraved with scrolling foliage on a hatched ground.

The box is gold-lined; the interior of the lid engraved with the crowned cypher of William III, 8.5cm wide.

A label inside the box is inscribed: ‘This very fine jasper Box once the property of His Majesty George the First.’
