An Ottoman, covered in a late 17th/early 18th century Delhi floorspread, circa 1730-50.

The cover is of Indian embroidered silk on a silver ground, with an overall design of stylised carnations and curling fern-like leaves interspersed with small quatrefoils, 201cm x 132cm x 42cm.

The 1867 Burghley Inventory records: ‘The fifth George Room … A large square centre ottoman covered in finely embroidered silk.’
