The bottle, of flattened form, is carved overall with a scene depicting a lohan, (an original follower of the Buddha), wrestling with a dragon, in a contest for the ‘flaming pearl’, watched by the remaining seventeen lohan, on a ground of waves and rocks. It carries the seal mark of Qianlong, (1736-1795) and is thought to have been made in the Beijing Palace Workshops which demanded the finest craftsmen from all over China, 7.6cm.
