An ivory carved snuff bottle, Chinese, 1780-1880.

The bottle, of rounded form, is decorated in polychrome enamels with scenes from the life of Chung K’uei.

It has a matching stopper which held the snuff taking spoon. 5.3cm.

Chung K’uei, or Zhong Kui, is a Taoist deity in Chinese mythology who is traditionally regarded as a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings.
