An Italian rock crystal flower vase, perhaps Milanese, early 17th Century.

The upper part of the oval body, which sits on an oval foot, is engraved with flutes, below which are two bands with scrolls and foliage, 8.5cm high.

The vase appears in the 1690 Devonshire Schedule, or Deed of Gift, which records an immense bequest from Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire (1619-1689), to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter (1649-1703).

This lists under ‘Christalls Garnisht and plaine’: ‘A wrought Christall fflower pott upon an ovall ffoot the Top silver Guilt.’

The silver-gilt top is now missing.
