An Italian rock crystal bowl, circa 1600.

The shaped ovoid bowl with auricular handles is carved with leafy scrolls and two flaws are masked by birds, 10.5cm long. The bowl is possibly Milanese.

The 1690 Devonshire Schedule which recorded an immense bequest from the Countess of Devonshire to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter, lists under ‘Christalls Garnisht and plaine’: ‘A wrought ribd Christall Cup with two Eares’.
