An Italian ivory-inlaid ebony cabinet, Neapolitan, mid 17th Century.

The top inlaid with stringing and ovals and squares engraved with landscapes, above a pair of glazed cupboard doors.

These enclose an arrangement of nine drawers around a cupboard; all drawers set with engraved biblical scenes.

On a later stand with square tapering legs and an X-frame stretcher, 63.5cm by 75cm.

This is possibly the item listed in the 1804 Burghley Inventory: ‘South Dressing room …a Brazil cabinet inlaid with figured Ivory on a stand.’
