An extensive Italianate Landscape with a Bridge and a distant Village, Circle of Gerard Edema (c.1652-c.1700).

Oil on canvas, 79cm by 123cm.

Gerard Edema was born in Holland, but spent most of his working life in England.

He travelled widely, to what were then considered to be exotic parts of the world, such as Dutch Guiana, the West Indies and the English colonies in America.

He returned with paintings of strange and very different landscapes which proved immensely popular.
