The case is now fitted with a 19th Century movement by Payne of 163, New Bond Street.
However, it is possible that it originally contained a Tompion movement, 92cm height, 49cm width, 30.5cm depth.
The case has been much altered and it is thought that the lower section may, at one time, have contained a musical movement.
The 1867 Burghley Inventory records: ‘Blue Drawing room. An 8 day clock by ——– in ebony case with chased ormolu ornaments. A black japanned and gilt fluted pedestal for do.’
