An Architectural Caprice with Bernini’s Fountain, Circle of Gennaro Greco, Il Mascacotta (1663-1714).

Oil on canvas. 25.5cm by 40cm. In a carved and gilded frame.
This was probably purchased by Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793), given the date of acquisition and its appearance in his copy of Orlandi’s Abecedario Pittorico. ‘Paul Brill. (sic) bought of Anderson in 1759’ is written on the back of the painting and it was previously attributed to the Flemish landscape artist and printmaker. However, the painting is now considered to more closely reflect the style of the Neapolitan veduta painter Gennaro Greco.
