Jacob’s Dream, after Domenico Feti (1589-1623).

Oil on canvas, 62.5cm by 44.5cm.

The Old Testament tells of Jacob, the son of Isaac, having a miraculous vision in a dream which showed him a stairway between Heaven and Earth.

Domenico Feti was mainly active in his native Rome, in Venice and Mantua.

Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793) lists this painting as having come from the Albani Palace in Rome, from whence he no doubt purchased it.
