A pair to PIC559, A Peasant Girl with Flowers.
The artist, who was born in Arras and died in Paris, was a painter, engraver and lithographer who worked in both oil and watercolour.
Although he does not seem to have been particularly well known in this country, he twice painted the portrait of Georgina, wife of William Alleyne, 3rd Marquess of Exeter (1825-1895), PIC947 & PIC536.
He also painted two very large group portraits of their son and daughter-in-law, the future 4th Marquess and his wife, with their children, PIC772 & PIC774.
