A Visitors’ Book commissioned to mark the Royal Visit of 1844.

The book is bound in Royal blue velvet, with silver-gilt spandrels and clasps. The page edges are gilt and those on the upper and lower edges are decorated with leaves and berries around a central cartouche bearing the date 1844. It was signed by Queen Victoria on Tuesday, 12th November 1844, the day of her arrival at Burghley and by Prince Albert the following day, the day on which he stood as sponsor, or godparent, at the christening of Lady Victoria Cecil, the youngest child of Brownlow, 2nd Marquess of Exeter and his wife, Isabella.
