The model is realistically cast and mounted on a naturalistically chased plinth.
It has an ebonised pedestal with silver plaques recording the many prizes won by Telemachus.
He was one of the dairy shorthorn cattle so successfully bred by William Alleyne, 3rd Marquess of Exeter (1825-1895), on the Home Farm at Burghley.
Telemachus was born in 1868 and died in 1876, having won countless major national prizes between 1869 and 1873.
He was buried in the Lower Garden, now part of the Sculpture Garden, at Burghley.
